Responsibilities
**Job Summary:**
Under general direction and with considerable latitude to exercise independent judgment, serves as research coordinator at the senior professional level for the Communicable Disease Surveillance and Prevention Program of the Center for Community Health and Prevention (CCHP). Oversees research activities for multiple studies as part of the New York State Emerging Infections Program (EIP), as well as for other quality improvement and population-based communicable disease surveillance projects, prevention and efficacy studies, and assessments related to healthcare associated infections. Plans, directs, monitors, and coordinates all phases of surveillance studies; may supervise others.
**Responsibilities:**
Directs the planning, implementation, coordination, operation and evaluation of all scientific aspects of multiple related projects including study design and conduct, database development, management and analysis, and audit protocols. Ensures that all project activities comply with Human Subjects regulations and reporting requirements. Works with project area leaders to ensure all elements of study protocols are carried out, providing necessary support to staff and acting as a resource to staff for data analysis and management questions.
Manages and mentors health project coordinators of various levels for their surveillance activities. Reviews study progress including data, finances, timeframes, documentation and reporting deliverables. Coordinates EIP-wide data validation efforts to ensure high quality data are produced. Works with staff to address deficiencies in understanding of data collection procedures and ensure data accuracy. Oversees the creation of regular data reports from each project area and develops project content reports and updates for community partners, as needed.
Oversees project staff to prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed medical literature and on abstracts/posters for local, state and national level conferences. Writes analytical and progress reports for new and ongoing projects; makes recommendations for publication; participates in conference calls and CDC-based meetings for assigned EIP projects. Provides technical consultation support to staff for grant summary and application processes.
Develops, manages, implements and monitors systems for tracking and evaluating study progression. Establishes guidelines for distribution of expenses. Provides budget information and prepares financial reports based on the cost factors of the project.
Participates in CDC trainings and conference calls; collaborates on development of protocols and data collection materials; trains other health project coordinators on subject matter.
Participates in budget development and strategic planning for EIP in collaboration with Directors. Contributes significantly to grant writing activities and progress reports. Serves as a liaison to area hospitals, health care centers and providers, CDC, and other participating parties.
**Requirements**:
* Bachelor's degree with major course work in an appropriate health, social or technical field, 3-5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Masters of Public Health and/or PhD in relevant scientific field or comparable educational attainment and at least 3 years' experience in disease surveillance or human subjects' research strongly preferred.
* Prior experience at a managerial or supervisory level preferred.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals with expertise in project coordination.
* Proven ability to lead a team, promote teamwork and efficiency, and provide technical supervision.
* Able to travel locally to visit program partners and available to attend regional and/or national meetings.
